Bhangon (Erosion)

Sourav sarangi, India, 2006, 60 mns

Banks along the Ganga and Padma in West Bengal are being eroded an an unprecedented pace. More than six hundred thousand people have been rendered homeless as a result. The hapless victims watch in silent endurance as the soil takes away their culture, history and livelihood.

These victims of erosion are not compensated. Governments, both central and state, have jointly spent millions of rupees to resist erosion; but the money has been mostly wasted. Every monsoon the gushing rivers find their own way by eroding all technological marvels built on her banks.

The film seeks to disseminate the pains and penury, the anger and resoluteness of the sufferers of erosion.
